BBVA
About BBVA
Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria was formed from mergers of several Spanish banks, with roots to 1857. BBVA expanded into Latin America, acquiring banks in Mexico, Argentina, and other countries. BBVA was an early adopter of digital banking, investing heavily in technology and artificial intelligence. The bank announced plans to become a fully digital bank. BBVA merged with Simplr in Spain and acquired digital banks in other countries. In 2021, BBVA sold its US operations to PNC for 11.6 billion, exiting the US market to focus on Spain, Mexico, and South America. BBVA has been praised for its digital transformation under executive chairman Carlos Torres Vila.
