Digital Banking Revolution
About Digital Banking Revolution
The shift from branch based banking to digital and mobile banking transformed the industry. Neobanks including Monzo, Revolut, N26, and Chime attracted millions of customers with no physical branches. Traditional banks invested billions in digital transformation. The number of bank branches declined across developed countries. Digital banking enabled new services including real time payments, personal financial management, and instant loan approvals. The COVID 19 pandemic accelerated the shift to digital banking as branches closed. By 2024, over 80 percent of banking interactions in developed countries were digital. The digital revolution reduced costs but also reduced personal service and eliminated local branch relationships.
