Founded in 1935 as the Kredietbank in Brussels. KBC Group was formed in 1998 from the merger of Kredietbank, ABB Insurance, and CERA Bank. KBC operates primarily in Belgium and Central Europe. The bank received 7 billion in state support during the 2008 crisis and repaid it by 2017. KBC divested its international operations to focus on core markets. The bank pioneered bancassurance in Europe, combining banking and insurance services. KBC has a strong presence in Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, and Bulgaria. The bank is known for conservative management and digital banking innovation. KBC operates one of the most successful mobile banking apps in Belgium.
