Rabobank
About Rabobank
Rabobank is a Dutch cooperative bank founded in 1898 by farmers as the Cooperative Agricultural Credit Banks. Two cooperative banks, Coobobank and Boerenleenbank, merged in 1972 to form Rabobank. The bank has no shareholders and is owned by its members. Rabobank finances Dutch agriculture and international agribusiness. The bank is one of the largest financers of agriculture globally. Rabobank was criticized for its climate policies, as livestock and agriculture financing contributes to emissions. The bank has committed to Paris Agreement aligned lending. Rabobank was fined 369 million in 2017 for anti money laundering failures related to Mexican drug cartel money. The bank sold its California bank Rabobank N.A. to Mechanics Bank in 2019.
