Starling Bank
About Starling Bank
Starling Bank was founded by Anne Boden in 2014 after she left her job as head of transaction services at Allied Irish Banks. Boden, a veteran banker, designed Starling as a fully digital mobile bank from scratch. Starling launched its app in 2017, later than Monzo. Starling focused on banking services rather than flashy marketing. The bank offered fee free foreign spending, real time notifications, and savings tools. Starling reached profitability faster than competitors. Anne Boden stepped down as CEO in 2023 but remained on the board. Starling has over 4 million customers and has been profitable since 2022. The bank represents a successful alternative approach to the neobank model.
