Tinkoff Bank
About Tinkoff Bank
Tinkoff Bank was founded by Oleg Tinkov in 2006 as a branchless bank. Tinkoff pioneered digital banking in Russia, issuing credit cards through direct mail and online channels. The bank grew to over 20 million customers. Tinkoff diversified into brokerage, insurance, and mobile phone services. The bank was renamed T-Bank in 2024 after Oleg Tinkov sold his stake and renounced his Russian citizenship after opposing the Ukraine war. The bank has been affected by Western sanctions on the Russian financial system. Despite challenges, T-Bank maintains a strong digital platform and loyal customer base. The bank was one of the most innovative in Russia before sanctions limited its access to international payment systems.
